Hi

A true legacy migration would mean not a single line drop of the precious business logic that exists on mainframe as well as (equally important) re-engineering into object oriented form being deployed on Java or .Net.

There are other bits and pieces as well that are related to transactions, security and processing speeds on the new platform...

Please see my article regarding this subject.

Hello,
We have a white paper on, and examples of, the migration of JCL and other legacy sorts (e.g. DF-Sort, MF COBOL sort, etc.) to CoSort on open systems (Unix, Linux and Windows). It is described at at:
http://elibrary.line56.com/detail/RES/1210960409_748.html
How can we make it available here? Please advise.

It is nice (but surprising) to hear that Cobol skills still carries a good price in the UK. Sadly, this may not be true in Northern Ireland. I am already a mainframe technical specialist but I don't earn anywhere near the average.

Siva,

I can certainly help you to generate cobol code with CA Gen as the product is now called (the name COOL:Gen has not been used for several years now).

As long as the purpose is for genuine commercial or educational research purposes then I am happy to help.

To generate cobol code you simply need to have built the necessary action diagram logic inside of a Gen model and then have the necessary Cobol Generation option installed.

It may be easiest to contact me directly via email as there are many questions I need to ask to find out exactly how much you know right now so that I can focus how much you need to know to move forward.

I can also help to put you in touch with a local Gen expert in or near your local country to ensure that you gain the necessary enducation, advice and guidance to ensure a successfu outcome to your question.

I dont want to put my email address into this blog as it will be picked up by web crawlers and give me even more spam - but you can work out what my email address is from my name and add @ca.com to it.

Take a look at gentalk.biz also - you'll get lots of help there too potentially from non-CA sources if you prefer.

Thanks
Andy
